Hi,
My name is Károly Szatmári, I was born in 1987 in Budapest. I am a freelance documentary photographer living in Germany. I began my career as a photo editor at Népszabadság, the largest Hungarian independent daily political newspaper, until the newspaper’s closure.
I first obtained my Photojournalism certification in 2018 from the National Association of Hungarian Journalists and continued my studies at the VII Academy as a scholar in 2023. For me, documentary photography is a communication channel that showcases our times through individual human stories.
In 2024, one of my photographs taken in Munich was included in Pictures of the Year 2024, which I consider a great honor among so many photographers I admire. Alongside photography, I also create content on YouTube, where I share reflections on visual culture, creativity, and storytelling and other topics what are close to me.
